Photos from the Last Trip to Sentosa, and the "Southernmost Point in Asia!"
Late August, 2005

Me at the sign indicating I am at the "Southernmost Point of Continental Asia."  No, I don't normally dress that way.  Try living on the Equator for a while, and see if a hat, sunglasses, shorts, and athletic-mesh (i.e. breathable) soccer shirts don't become your clothing of choice.

So you can read what it says.

Okay, before we cross the bridge to the "Point," here's a turtle sunbathing in a fountain nearby.  Seems quite happy with the tropical conditions.

Leaning back on the sign, about to start over the bridge to the "Point."

Okay, there's the bridge.  I'm tellin' ya, parts of Singapore are like Six Flags... or maybe Panama City, Florida.  In a good way, though.

Crossing the bridge.  Very crowded today!  Also note the two towers ahead.  I'll be climbing one in a moment.

Nice view of the artificial breakwater at the far end of the bridge.  You are looking at the Straits of Malacca.  Or the Singapore Straits.  Same thing, really.  (I wish James Clavell had written a cool novel about Singapore, like he did Hong Kong and Japan...)

Paradise!  Trees as seen from atop the two towers at the "Point."

The lagoon, sort of, between Sentosa and the "Point."  That's what the bridge led over.  Yeah, you could probably walk across it without the bridge...!  But by connecting it via a footbridge, the "Point" becomes "part of continental Asia," and thence the designation.  So, there ya go.

And finally:  Sentosa as seen from the towers.  There's the observatory tower and the giant Merlion in the distance.

Ah, Sentosa.  Ah, Singapore.  How I miss thee already.  I must go back soon!  As soon as I can stand the thought of sixty more hours on planes...
